Paving the Path to a Brighter Future

Small Class Instruction

Serving Grades JK-5

Meeting Each Child Where They Are

Our staff works very hard to cultivate relationships with each and every child, getting to know the child academically and individually. This relationship is at the core of the Richmond Primary experience. We believe that one size does not fit all and are committed to understanding children on an individual level.

Small Class Sizes

At Richmond Primary, we cap our classes at 10 students per class to ensure each child is met on an individual level and given enough time in the classroom to grow and learn at their own rate. With 10 per class, we feel our students develop a sense of community and build strong relationships with those around them. Our teachers have the opportunity to meet with and assess their students daily, giving them ample time to understand and master concepts, easily identify and fix gaps in learning and build the confidence needed to be successful, life-long learners.

"Handpicked" Curriculum

Our curriculum is hand selected in each subject area by our teachers and staff. We’ve chosen programs we feel meet the needs of our young learners developmentally and provide the opportunity for quick growth and understanding at each level. These programs challenge our students to be critical thinkers, use their prior knowledge and challenge them to think outside the box, going above and beyond the national standards to discover concepts that are more complex and nurture their own interests.

Community and Spiritual Connection

We are a Christian-based school where God is woven into our everyday lives and classrooms. Students attend chapel twice a week in the St. Matthews sanctuary. Our students also learn selected bible verses throughout the year which are shared through services, classroom time, or special programs.

Richmond Primary School is a “community of love” that creates a learning environment where children thrive academically, socially and emotionally. This approach is cohesive with our religious formation, which has two primary goals. First, every student knows that he/she is a beloved child of God and second, every student is given unique gifts and God has a special purpose for each of them.

Our mission statement is “We will provide the opportunity to build a strong academic, spiritual and emotional foundation, in an environment that embraces diversity, promotes creativity and instills values of faith, service, compassion and respect.”

This mission statement reflects the religious formation goals and is supported by the “Virtues of the Month." The virtues are reinforced throughout the school day in a variety of ways and contexts. Throughout the school day, students are encouraged to live the School’s mission statement by practicing the virtues in the classroom, hallway and playground. Teachers coach the students in the virtues informally during the day, incorporating them into the curriculum and focusing on them specifically during their morning meetings and during chapel on Fridays. We believe that the social curriculum is as important as the academic curriculum. How children learn is as important as what they learn. This shows that process and content go hand in hand. Students at Richmond Primary School are expected to be safe, responsible and respectful members of our School community and feel a sense of belonging to something greater than themselves. Mutual respect creates a safe learning environment and reduces disruption of the educational process.

Although we are a faith-based community, we welcome any non faith-based families to join us at Richmond Primary School!
